Lapping valves on 45-SLP

Here's my deal.......

I have a 1-yr old silverplated Meinl Weston 45-SLP that I absolutely love. Great reponse, intonation, tone character. It's the perfect horn for me....almost. The problem that I'm having is the "Big Valve" set on the horn isn't very comfortable for my right hand. It's a bit of a stretch for my fingers at times. Add to that the valves are still pretty new and require a bit more work. This causes problems in my hand.

I'm thinking of having the valves lapped by my repair guy hoping this would quicken the action on the pistons and ease some tension that builds up from prolonged use (such as practicing the Plog a lot!)

I know that Russ Dickman had problems with this valveset being too large for his hands and he put his up for sale. I don't want to sell mine for the same reason, but I can't continue to practice in pain.

But I'm wondering if anyone else has any insight to this problem.

Thanks,
Josh
