I think you should give the PT 88+ and PT 50+ a try. Provided that you blow correctly, they will help to add a nice core to the sound, which many people consider "dark". Be careful with big mouthpieces though, as the sound often becomes unfocused and "fluffy". Some people associate this fluffiness with "dark" sound. Up close, it sounds big and round, but in the hall it sounds kind of tubby. Experiment with some big mouthpieces, but I hold the Pt line in great regard, as they are well designed, and well constructed.
