Amazing! After all these years and our 1977 Gong Show appearance is now a legend! Yes, that was Bert Harclerode and me on tubas; euphoniums were Frank Berry and Scott Lycan. We were actually taking the spot originally assigned to the LA Tuba Quartet (Roger Bobo, Tommy Johnson, Jim Self and Don Waldrop), which unanimously abandoned the project when they all got better gigs. Their plan was to go on and get gonged on purpose by playing the "Dance of the Reed Pipes" while dancing in leatards and tutus.

Norm, thanks for giving Dave Lusher the proper credit for the solo appearance. I saw it and thought the score was too low.

The helicon playing granny must have made more than one appearance. When I saw her she played and danced to "There's Gotta Be a Tuba in the Band." She got beat our by a singer who sang "Sister" from "The Color Purple".
