Between the Gardiner recording, and the Norrington one, I'd choose the Gardiner. If nothing else, it's better recorded. Both do the work as it's scored: two ophecleide in the upper octave, and four bassoons in the lower octave. Amazing, considering that this was composed way before 1850.
