I think part of the key is trying to have your lips exactly as they would be while playing the note before you ever make a sound. I am too often guilty of letting the air help shape my lips, and it seems when I get them all lined up and ready to go before the air is there, the attack is much cleaner. I think this is also why the second and third attacks of a note are generally cleaner than the first.
