Well, looking at the two, the Mt. Vernon has a shallower cup and a smaller throat and is about 1/4" shorter than the "standard issue" Bach 18. The cup diameter seems to be about the same. There are minor exterior styling differences also.
I prefer the modern 18 to the old Mt. Vernon.
