I think the entire valve set was different on the 2J/4J. If memory serves, the valve set was from the reynolds line. While the 2J was not a bad tuba, it was scrapped in favor of the 3J/5J line, which was closer to Harvey's horn. the 2J/4J had a much smaller bell, though that may be what you meant by a different bell flare.
