Unfortunately, the Marine Corps will sometimes let unqualified musicians enlist for the band field. I guess they look at it in the way that if the musicians fail out of the Armed Forces School of Music, the Corps will have them to put at a job that not many enlist for. When I went through the Basic course at the School, I saw quite a few musicians fail out that should have never been there. Most of the men got sent straight to Camp Lejune and were put in the infantry.
