Here goes.....

As the design consultant for the Dillon M1C, F1 and F2, let me just say that I now use a Mike Finn #2 on my Conn 56J!!? (And, yes, when I want to go low and loud, I go BACK to the M1C.)

Mouthpieces/lips/horn are very personal things. Your "old stand-by" may be terrible on your brand new tuba. You need to experiment. THANK GOD we now have a variety of mouthpieces from which to choose. AND, chops change with age and/or developement.

My suggestion is this: Develop the sound in your head and try to find the equipment that will give you that sound the majority of the time (and please include regular practice in the equation!)

The M1C is a great mouthpiece. So are the Finn's, Laskey's, Perantucci's, etc.....

Be open-minded and listen to yourself with honest ears.

Hope this helps.
