The only thing I can say is that's good to get many records by different player of that piece. There is a lot of different ideas on differents records. You can find by this way what you consider good for you and what you dislike. If someone like Fletcher, someone else will prefer an other player. But, you have to build your own opinion. That's why, for your question I'll yes... Also, it's a good listenning experience to listen a lot of historic performance. Mr Jacob did a lot for the world of the tuba, that's a good occasion to listen him performing an important work for the tuba. There is that story about the recording, as Sean G. said. But, you must get that record anyway. I think it's out of print, but you probably can get it somewhere...
