What I did was give a couple of music demo/ masterclasses to local middle schools
When I got a couple of those students word traveled fast
I was able to pick up other instruments ( bone, euph)
By the time they got to HS, a new batch of young students was ready, and I could select the students more likely for success
I maintain about 10-14 students
All but 3 were all state, all enter S&E festivals, and many continue through to college
