I tried posting this earlier, and it didn't appear. For those who gave advice on the first 30 seconds of this piece, I did something fairly weird, but with good results. I had a Yammie 58 Bass Trombone mouthpiece fit inside a tapered receiver (from a cut sousaphone receiver) which in turn fit into the Kalison CC I use. The ppp sustained pitch was still characteristically tuba, and the air resistance and cup size both aided holding the Gb for much longer, and much softer, than with my Monette 98 (duh, obviously.)
The big thing was maintaining characteristic core sound, but at an extremely quiet and LONG value. Fairly non-traditional, but, hey--got good comments from my mates in the t'bones.
Phil
