I think the more we discuss the "mechanics" of how to produce a sound - rather than simply working to imitate and produce that sound - the easier it is to be led astray or to misunderstand.
I only spoke with Mr. Arnold Jacobs a couple of times briefly, listened to a lecture, and never studied with him privately...
...but I believe that - in spite of all of the work that he did to analyse the mechanics of playing - his attitude was that concentration on the SOUND , rather than the "speed" or "intensity" of the "air" / placement of the embouchure, etc., etc., ad infinitum, is THE key to MAKING that sound.
