Graduate Assistantship in Tuba

Position: The University of New Mexico Department of Music is offering
a graduate assistantship in tuba for 2003-04. The workload will
consist of rehearsing and performing with the faculty brass
quintet (New Mexico Brass Quintet), and teaching/performing in
the Music Department.
Stipend: This is a two year full assistantship paying c.$10,000+/year
salary plus a waiver of all tuition.
The opportunity for extra income exists through performances
with the New Mexico Brass Quintet, private teaching and
performing professionally in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area.
Programs: UNM offers the MM degree with emphasis in performance,
composition, music history, theory, music education, piano
accompanying, and conducting. No doctorate is offered.
NMBQ: The NMBQ is an active ensemble, each year performing over
30 concerts. Tours have taken it throughout the USA, Mexico,
Hungary, Italy, Germany, Austria, Finland, Russia, Australia and
most recently to China. The NMBQ is in the forefront in
commissioning new works, having premiered more than 50 such
works since 1977. The Quintet has four commercially available
recordings, Crystal CD 560, Crystal CD 563 and NMBQ CDs 1&2.
Former tubists of the NMBQ enjoy prestigious teaching and
performing positions: Phil Black, Prof. at Wichita State
University, David Porter, USAF Band, Washington, D.C., John
Olah, Prof. at University of Miami, Steven Rossé, Sydney
Symphony, Chris Hall, Metropolitan Opera, Cameron Gates,
US Marine Band, Washington, Jon Voth, US Army Band,
Washington Paul Beauchesne, Foothills Brass Quintet, Brian
Dobbins, Xalapa Symphony Orchestra.
