Since there's so little response I'll chime in. I knew of one gentleman who played a King db euph from the 20s and he had a marvelous sound. He would leave the detachable alto bell off to cut down the weight. Another person had a rather large Lyon and Healy db model that sounded great. This was a 5-valve, (4standard-5th for alto bell). I don't recall either person using the alto bell-they just played straight euphonium. This was quite some time ago-I haven't seen anyone using one recently at all.
