What case I use depends upon the BAT I'm toting around. If it is an old Conn BAT, they are built like such tanks that I frequently have used no case at all (60-lb horn!) and it was fine, but in the case of the rose-brass Rudi BAT CC I now have, it stays in the hard case - no exceptions. Maybe I've led a charmed existence, but I've never had a BAT damaged when carrying it in an Altieri bag. They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but they work for me, exceedingly comfortable to carry.
