I used a plain-Jane (regular) Conn Helleberg sitting on the shelf in my workroom...not at all a particular favorite of mine - and certainly not what I would normally call on to play particularly high nor particularly low with great volume and clarity.

I have nothing critical whatsoever to say about the playing characteristics the most recent one of these (tall, 16-1/2" bell, .748" bore, B&S-made BBb tubas) that wowed me...

Physically:

-The valves were bone-dry.
-The bell had a huge crease.
-The bottom bow was bashed in.
-There were numerous mouthpipe and 4th valve tubing dents.
-The bell interior was completely intertwined with cobwebs and who-knows-what-else was in it.
