You have to watch out whenever you play ANY Robert King arrangements that claim to be brass quintets (which I know is not exactly what you are refering to). Mr. King thought that no brass quintet should use a tuba unless you had at least three players on each of the other parts, because of course a tuba would be MUCH too loud, you could have a baritone or euphonium play the low part. Nothing against euphs, but tubists today can do a good job of balancing the other four players without drowning them out. This was just an excuse by Mr. King to grab some parts for himself. The tricky thing is that if you play his arrangements, you have to use the Baritone part and change octaves - if you use the tuba part, the rest of the group will be looking at you to play a solo line, and you'll be counting measures. When you get these arrangements, IMHO,throw away the tuba parts. I know experienced quintet players know this, but the younger players need to be clued in. Just a public service.
