really, who cares? tune, chart, song, piece, work, it's all music. Are our musical lives so unfulfilling that we have to fret over what word somebody uses to refer to a portion of music? The above quoted university professor was a bit more openly harsh than most, but her arrogance and attitude pretty much sum up the general mindset of academia-bred and self-labeled "musicians" these days.. alienation with one hand, bitching and whining about the underfunding of the arts with the other. HMMMMMMM.

(ironically, the composer of the above mentioned piece was Mendelssohn.. made grounds for a very effective counterexample, to which the professor's reply was "well, you don't know what was going on in Mendelssohn's head, so who are you to make that example?")
