I just heard the most incredible brass playing on the radio tonight. A (probably pre-taped?)live broadcast of the Pittsburgh Symphony playing Tchaikovsky 5 under guest conductor Mstislav Rostropovich. I felt punched in the face by every trombone entrance - their immense power (not raw but precise) was balanced by an incredible tuba sound beneath. For any TubeNetter who may have been lucky enough to be there, was this Sumner Ericson and the regular trombone section? Is there any way to get a hold of this recording (I have heard P'burgh does have a Tchaik 5 out, but a different conductor / different performance). There is a special magic live recordings have that many studio ones lack.
Thanks for any assistance, you never know when you may hear an unexepected gem!
