The sound won't suffer if repaired.
They can be fixed permanently with silver solder (requires more skill and care + thicker material to work with)
or
repaired for a good long time (possibly permanently if the instruments is used with care) with "low temperature" no-lead silver-bearing solder (like plumbers use).
