Having just retired from a career in both science and engineering while actively pursuing a hobby in music on the side, I couldn't resist adding my two centiEuros to this topic.
In simple (I guess oversimple) terms:
The scientist attempts to uncover the laws of nature
The engineer attempts to put these to practical use
The artist attempts to arrange nature to evoke an emotional response in the viewer/listener.
Isn't it fun to make pronouncements? Now I have to go practice scales.
