Science is about understanding how nature works. As scientists we focus our attention (often in very creative ways!) on something (nature) that already exists and operates by its own rules.
Art is about creating something that never existed but which makes so much sense in its own way that it should have and perhaps always will exist, like a Beethoven symphony or an Armstrong trumpet solo.
Science (or at least engineering) is often a tool of the artist, but I can't think of many ways in which art is a tool of the scientist.
