Since the US represents by far the largest market for this particular instrument (Europe doesn't buy nearly the number of CC tubas that the US does), there are competitive issues to consider. It wouldn't be unusual for MW to announce a price cut on this or all models in order to keep sales going.

Consider that, as far as the US government is concerned, there is near-zero domestic consumer price inflaction. Indeed, there are many who are still worried about a deflationary spiral.

This Euro-dollar imbalance has many governments worried, among them China, Japan and the EU. Unfavorable exchange rates mean lower sales for the party with the stronger currency.
