While I, personally, get a lot of pleasure from sitting down to practice, I often wonder what drives me to keep striving for improvement, realizing that I will never accomplish the level of a Sheridan, or a myriad of other players. Additionally, it has struck me, that while I understand my limitations, I still feel (I think I shall always feel) a need to keep striving to improve.

It was with great pleasure that I came upon the following quote: (From Donald Hall’s LIFE WORK.)

(On asking Henry Moore, the sculptor, the secret of life) "With
anyone else, the answer would have begun with an ironic laugh, but Henry
Moore answered me straight: 'The secret of life is to have a task,
something you devote your entire life to, something you bring everything
to, every minute of the day for your whole life. And the most important
thing is, it must be something you cannot possibly do!'"
