See if your band director will purchase a set of K&M sousaphone playing stands...about $125 each. There are collapsable and portable. I sell 'em, and can send your band director a picture or weblink, if there is interest.
These are NOT Wenger "sousa chairs". You place your OWN chair next to the intrument held in this stand. I used a similar stand when I was 5' tall 140 lb. kid playing metal sousaphones.
