On quite a few F-tubas, the fundamental F is sharp, or at best hollow and fuzzy.
A properly-tuned 561234 allows the player to "lay into" low F, as well as much more easily crescendo< >diminuendo...and there are some obvious V.W. Concerto (et al) advantages.
