Didn't somebody else (other than Pokorny) actually win the audition? I know the audition was in January of 1988 (because I was there) and Gene didn't start until September I think. If I recall correctly, a very young player won the job but wasn't offered the permanent position after the six month "trial period". Can anyone refresh my (admittedly beer-stained) memorey on this one?
