Dave - your points are well taken and certainly valid. I would like to point out a couple of exceptions as food for thought:
Roger Bobo, Dan Perantoni, Chuck Daellenbach, Michael Sanders, Dennis Miller, John Stevens, Cherry Beauregard, Ron Bishop, Toby Hanks and dozens of others studied at Eastman (mostly as undergraduates) with Donald Knaub, a bass-trombonist who to my knowledge never touched a tuba.
