You might try sprinkling baking soda liberally throughout the case. Let it sit for a few hours and then vacuum. You may find fine baking soda dust in the case for a while, but it's harmless. You may have to repeat these steps on a particularly tough case. I recently made the mistake of trying a powdered carpet cleaner (with a "fresh" scent) and my house smelled like cheap perfume for days. I have vacuumed the case several times, but the smell still lingers a bit. An unscented version might work. I believe that baking soda is the active ingredient in most of these products. Good luck!
