I, as a college-aged punk <-(now all grown up to a middle-aged jerk), spoke to Mr. Floyd Cooley at a major T.U.B.A. Symposium in Texas in the late '70's right after he sold his Gronitz F and was preparing to perform a (VERY impressive) recital there on his "run-of-the-mill" new Meinl-Weston F. When I asked him why he made such a questionable equipment change, he sort of said something to the effect of, "I became tired of people attributing my playing to the Gronitz tuba, so I sold it."
