Don Little - University of North Texas

Don is a good teacher who studied with Mr. Jacobs. He has a good amount of experience, and is well known in the Tuba world. He is a past-President of TUBA. Some of his students have gone on to some great ensembles. Washington DC Navy Band, an Orchestra in Spain... Dr. Bowman has just been hired to be the Euphonium Professor at UNT. This gives one exposure to two great teachers.
This school is well-known for its Jazz program, however it also has a fantastic Wind Studies program. Both the One O'clock Lab Band, and the NT Wind Symphony have been nominated for Grammy's. The Tuba studio is solid, and the ensemble is good for exposure to the literature. It has a strong orchestra (Conductor is former Concertmaster for Philadelphia.) The Music Education Department gives a good all-around education.
It is close to Dallas/Fort Worth - DSO has a great orchestra, and fantastic hall. Fort Worth has a pretty good orchestra. Dallas has a ballet, and an opera. There are alot of great tuba teachers in the area and they are all great about being available for lessons.
It is a big school, but I didn't ever - EVER feel like a number at that school. As long as you worked hard, and did what you were supposed to do, you didn't get passed over.
UNT has a new concert hall that I am told is great to play in, it is friendly to tubas. There are some great regional orchestras, and great ensembles that you can go and see at a pretty good price.

Take a look at it's website.
