My suggestion is that you read the many threads on this subject in the BBS archives and then take a trip to the Woodwind & Brasswind. The W & B may be your best bet for 2 reasons. First, they have many of the horns you mention as being curious about. They also carry some you may not have tried or considered. Second, they now offer a financing plan for tuba purchases. I've not personally tried this service, nor have I had a student try it, but it is the only program of its type that I know of. Good luck finding your tuba!
