Save yourself the time and trouble. The horn is a dog! Other than being stuffy and having really bad intonation, it has really sluggish response. I've test-played 3 different ones and had the same results in each....at least they're consistent!

If you want to spend around $4000 on a CC tuba, than look around for a good used horn. Tons of guys are selling older B&S, Miraphone, etc horns all the time in your "price range". I waited and waited and found a gem of a horn last summer in my B&S PT-5....and I paid less than $4000 for mine. It's a really nice horn for larger settings. I'm afraid it might be a little large for quintets, but it works.

Good luck. There are lots of horns out there......be very picky and find the absolute best horn for YOU and the one that makes YOU sound the best.
