The problem with buzzing a mouthpiece alone or using a BERP (oh, okay B.E.R.P.) to improve tonal accuracy is that it's hard for some (myself included) to hear the buzzed tones clearly enough to judge pitch accurately. I find that using a "bazoo"--an ordinary kazoo attached with a piece of vinyl tubing to a mouthpiece makes the tones very audible and easier to judge. It's also at least twice as irritating to others!
