To begin with, keep in mind that the "Director" name has always been
used by Conn for entry level horns. In British-style brass bands,
which are pretty much the only place you find these horns nowdays,
the horns used are mostly Bessons. Some bands in the U.S. use
Yamahas as well. The consensus of our horn section is that, while
some older Conns and Kings were very nice horns, most they have
played were dogs. No one had any good experience with an American
horn new enough to have the "Director" label. About the only place
I could imagine playing this horn is in a very tolerant community
band that is desparately short of French horns.
