I'm not a full time pro, but I do this kind of thing a lot, and not just in schools but some very large demos in fromt of a full concert hall of 6-10 year olds. I can't think of any feeling I like better than watching them all point and stare at the tuba, and then fall silent as soon as it makes a noise. Every now and then you get one who takes the trouble to find you afterwards and ask for a go, and just occasionally they get a descent note (and usually give themselves quite a shock) before realising what they did and going away with a grin that lasts for days. Maybe its because I don't depend on it solely for a living, but for me no pay cheque can replace that. When all is said and done the point of music is for people to enjoy it - players and audience alike.

James.
