Go for it! I think it can best be done by replacing the horizontal double-loop(Mirafon style) tuning slide assembly at the bottom of the horn with a single crook vertical(Alexander style) slide. You'll probably have to shorten up a couple of the other branches a little bit to make up the whole 23" more or less that has to be taken off. All the valve tubes have to be shortened by the same ratio. I once bought one of the Petes with the same thing in mind but decided that it probably wasn't worth it, since I had so many nicer, more interesting instruments around waiting for the same work. I picked out the horn in Germany and paid for my trip when I sold it here. With the strenght of the dollar as it is they must be going dirt cheap right now.
