Yeah, how about shining it up real nice with something, wipe it off real good to remove any residue, and spray a light coat of air-dry lacquer over it (just the exposed brass, not the silver plate.) You can get a little can of this stuff at any hobby store or arts and crafts shop.
How 'bout it, experts? Is this a viable option?
