My respect towards a young person taking up the fight with the contrabass tuba in one of its ultimate incarnations is unlimited.

But do forget anything about the looks. The sound and the overall contributions to your musical environment is what really counts.

Anybody commenting on the looks of your horn, as long as you are not in a military band, has degraded himself/herself from membership of any serious musical community.

Playing, not polishing, is the real job of tubaists at any level.

No, I am not polishing myself. Silver plating is equaling blackness in my vocabulary. My instruments were made with their weight of materials, because the designer thought that would be the optimum for the musical output. I am not going to alter that very important parameter of design.
