If you'll allow me another observation - wind players of whatever specific instrumental persuasion must be certain their dentists know they are wind players, and should if possible seek out dentists who have played themselves, or even continue to do do as an avocation. At the very least, your dentist must have some familiarity with what you do, and the role played by your jaw, teeth, and lips. My dentist is not a player, but is an appreciative music lover. Just prior to a session of demolition/reconstruction, I brought my rim to an office visit in order to illustrate to him in the most graphic terms what was involved and at stake.

Remember - your teeth are the gateway to your chops. Take care of 'em, and make sure your dentist knows they're more than for eating, smiling, or giving your lover hickeys.
