There's quite a wide spectrum of oils, hydrocarbon-based, synthetic, and
vegetable oil-based mixtures. In my experience, the best-performing and
most durable oils are Holton and Roche-Thomas, which happen to have nearly
identical viscosity rating. There was an outstanding article published about
valve oils in the Clarinet Quarterly (!) and I think the year was 1996.
