Matt G.

Outside of the "virtually non-existing low A-flat (maybe he meant the
"virtual" as in "cyberspace" low a-flat --- see related post)I have
always found the Yamaha professional series horns to have a great sound
and intonation, good response througout the range and easy to hold
and reach all slides, etc. I personnaly prefer them to the Miraphones,
Alexanders, Cervenys, etc. I have also sat and listened to a number
of friends try out horns and the Yamaha's were in the final two choices
many times. I am not a professional player but one only needs
to listen to Jim Self or Charles Villarrubia (Rhythm & Brass)or Wes Jacobs
(E-flat tuba - Detroit Symphony Orchestra) to hear what these can sound
like. For the record, I have never tried the BB-flats, only CC and F.
However, I cannot imagine at the pro-level horns there is a difference
in the quality.

Now for my personnel pick, when getting into that dollar range, I would
choose a Hirsbrunner or B & S (large horn) or a Wilson (E-flat or F) over
the Yamaha. I feel those horns are better built, more substantial. But
that is my personnal preference.

IMHO for what it is worth.
