I guess like any other tuba, there are good "monsters" and not-so-good ones. Sounds like you got one of the better ones. The monster I frankensteined (is that a word?) was a 1922 front-action model with pretty awful intonation. I struggled with it for a month, tweaking this and that and finally gave up and turned it into a CC. I'm glad I did.

I'm of the persuasion of Bob Rusk when it comes to old Eb tubas--the small ones make the best Eb/F instruments.
