I really like my 822 in my quintet and for an all-around F tuba. I really liked the Meinl's sound and feel, but the "big valves" were just a hair too big for my hands. I think if I could get a Meinl with the 5th valve on the left hand, then I might be more inclined to get one someday. Just something about the throw on the thumb paddle that wasn't comfortable for me. But lots of others out there seem to like it ok.

If I were doing more orchestral playing, the Meinl would probably have been my choice.

I've heard a couple of really good players on each horn, and I liked each for different reasons.

Apples and Oranges.

Sit down with them and play them. See for yourself. Whichever one allows you to make the best music that you can is probably the horn you should get.

Either way, you gotta practice. My 822 doesn't play as easy in the low end as my 621 did. But it has a lot more presence to the sound and just feels better for me and and the way I play.
