I really think that the whole CC vs. BBb in orchestra is overblown. Many European orchestras use BBb tubas, and many English use Eb. I recently bought a 6/4 CC tuba for use in band and have regretted the awkwardness of fingerings in flat-heavy band keys, and I am planning to switch back to BBb. However, I never had a real problem playing orchestral music on a BBb. I love my CC for its tone and depth, but I can survive without it.

Also, why do so many people ignore questions about conflict of intonation tendencies between CC tubas and Bb trombones and trumpets? In my opinion, it's because a professional orchestral player should be able to play any note in tune in any key on any keyed instrument. If you want to play BBb in an orchestra, go ahead. If you want or need to play an F or an Eb, go ahead.
