Red Callendar's album is called "Speak Low" and was recorded in 1956 or 1957. I heard rumors about it when I was about your age (I am very old) but never could find it until I met Red at the 1978 ITEC, in Los Angeles. I got a copy there. Red was also a very fine bassist so you may be interested in him from that aspect, too. Ther are many examples of jazz Tuba prior the Red Callendar album. The predominent bass in early jazz was the tuba or the Bass Sax, not the string bass.
