I think the idea of listening to the jazz tubists mentioned is a wonderful idea, but keep listening to all of those great jazz bass players out there. Listening to an artist like Ray Brown can only help to strengthen your understanding of the many roles bass and/or tuba plays in the jazz ensemble. I would also suggest picking up a couple of bass books to study out of. Off the top of my head I am thinking of the following:

Anthony Vitti's Finger Funk workbook 1
Ray Brown's bass method
Rufus Reid's Evolving Bassist

I don't know if this will help any, but I hope it does!
