Winton,

I just had to comment on people describing Victor Wooten as a technical bass player.
I feel exactly the opposite about his playing. I would describe him as a bass player who is capable of playing in a technical manner, but not hampered by it. I feel many musicians are so "trained" that they tend to lose creativity for fear of "going against the grain". To me, his music is full of creativity and free from limitations.

On the otherhand, John Pattituci quickly shoots down my theory on training potentially stifling creativity. When I listen to him play, I can't help but be amazed by how clean and flawless his lines sound. At the same time, he is an incredibly creative and melodic player. Go figure! Either way, those guys can play circles around most and I am envious of their very different, but wonderful musical capabilities.
