The rider on insurance policies to cover extra things like tubas is called an "Inland Marine" policy. I have had one on all of my instruments, from my tubas to my son's violin. My insurance carrier asked for a current value and wrote the insurance based on my evaluation. Some companies require an appraisal but most good local music stores should provide that for you (usually at no cost). A few suggestions: Be sure to insure the instrument, mouthpiece, case, and gig bag rather than just the value of the tuba. Also make the insurance retail price or more to cover any increase in the value. That also will cover you in the event the insurance company decides to depreciate the value because it is "used". Also, check for a no deductible policy. Hope this helps.
